about a Bissell steam cleaner machine?

just today i bought a Bissell steam machine to clean the carpet at my home. It is a But everyone knows that before deep steam cleaning, we need e vacuum cleaning for them. May i use it as vacuum cleaner before steaming or i need another vacuum cleaner?
I have a Bissell Cleaner, it works great. Its the bigger one. I shampoo with the soap then i rinse it several times. Then i spray scotch guard on it. That keeps it cleaner longer. My carpet looks great. But you have to vacuum it first with a regular vacuum.
