Why does my carpet sound crunchy?

We just went out and bought a brand spanking new Kenmore vacuum – Our 2 y/o bissell just bit the dust… Anyways.. we brought the Kenmore home, put the handle on it and went to work- Wow, what a fantastic job!
ONE problem…… For some reason the carpet all of a sudden sounds like we’re walking on plastic bags! I would also describe it as crunchy…. every inch that I vacuumed sounds this way! Anyone have an answer to this!?? What the heck happened to my carpet!?!?

I wonder if the suction just pulled the carpet away from the matting? Dont really know.

    carpet makers put some specific thing in it which sounds like plastics
