Is the rattling … Is the rattling noise at turn-on something that helps the motor start? I know some older electric motors used a spring starting mechanism or similar. It sounds like it is a low RPM motor.
The Model O is neat … The Model O is neat, but what is even more fascinating to me is the Model 3 sitting on the table to the right. First commercial machine, and the first with a sand-cast aluminum base. Same motor as the Model O, but the 32-blade fan engaged after the motor started, and took an additional 55-60 seconds to reach full speed.

Wow, great to see a Model O run! Didn’t expect it to be so noisy though, especially when compared with inter-war Hoovers
