Bissell vacuum cleaners came into being when Melville Bissell of Grand Rapids, Michigan, wanted to help his wife, Anna, get sawdust out of her carpets – brooms just could not do it effectively. I should have shown it but before I started recording I did confirm that the power switch wasn’t doing anything.

The problem was both carbon brushes had seized inside the holders, and had worn down to where they were not contacting the armature.

Review of Broken Pink Hoover Convertible Model 589 from 1973 with a motor burnout

Alright, let me just say, this is the first video I have ever gotten where the motor burnt out on camera. So let me start off by saying, the previous owners of my uncles house left this vacuum cleaner behind. The previous owners never took good cared of it at all. The switch is broken, the bag is full of hard stuff, and the motor runs badly. We turned this on the day before, and it ran alright, but made funny noises. My aunt and uncle used to use this to vacuum the leaves in the garage. Since it stopped working, they most likely threw it out. So yea, this is a pink Hoover Convertible from 1973 with the old style outside bags with the buttons that you button. Like I said, they probably threw this vacuum out. They now use a Bissell vacuum, which is not that great.
