10% of the population is allergic to dust mites but the really disgusting thing about it is that it’s actually the dust mite excrement to which people are allergic. This can be particularly bad for people with asthma. Here are 5 things you can do to decrease the dust mite population in your mattress: 1. Use an allergy-proof mattress cover. 2. Wash your sheets in hot water up to 130F degrees weekly. 3. Vacuum the mattress. 4. Don’t let outdoor pets onto the bed. And 5. if you have children’s toys that are not washable put them in a plastic bag in the freezer for 5 hours at a time.
